Ethan Van Sciver was doing a signing at Atomic Comics Mesa in '99.
At the time, he'd just started being the regular artist on Impulse
but had done one fill-in issue before that.
He'd brought some of his art for sale and he happened to have the
one page that I wanted most from his fill-in issue with him for a
great price, so I immediately snatched that up.
It's the second appearance of the Arrowette character which went on
to be really well developed in the Young Series.
One of the interesting thing in this piece is on Bart's eyes in the
panel where he's a bit stunned. He'd had to do some touch-up work
on the eyes, so he used a bit of white-out on them. In the art,
it gives the eyes a bit of shine and makes them stand out even
more when you catch the light just right.
Picture is from a digital scan rather than a camera as this is
framed and hanging over my computer desk.
